The Very Best Scottish Bagpipe Music
71Nothing stirs your heart more than the sound of the bagpipes, especially if you have Scottish or Celtic blood running through your veins. The very best of Scottish bagpipe music is worth listening to and will perhaps remind you of the wild heather growing on barren hillsides, or the marches of a call to war.
Bagpipe music through the years has always had the ability to bring a tear to your eye, and to get a piper to play at emotional family gatherings like weddings and funerals can make poignant moments so special you will remember it all your life.
If a live piper isn't available, however, the next best thing to buy some bagpipe music and play it through the public sound system. Bagpipe music has always been strongly emotional, and is perfect for many occasions.

Have a look at all the bagpipe music albums on you right here. Some of them are mp3 downloads that you could have on your hard drive in seconds, and you could spend the next few hours having a wee dram and remininscencing of the Scotland you left behind, or perhaps the Scotland your grandparents told you about.
Perhaps you have a funeral coming up in your family. You may hear bagpipe music that will be perfect for that sad send-off. Amazing Grace is one such song that fits perfectly.
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis Grace that brought me safe thus far
and Grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me.
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
When we've been here ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.
Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
Alternatively, maybe there is happy occasion in your family coming up, maybe a wedding. Will you be walking down that aisle soon?
Wouldn't it be wonderful to walk down accompanied by that lonely piper playing the Wedding March?
The Bagpipes
Bagpipes are basically just a bag with 5 tubes sticking out of them.
One is for the piper to blow into. This fills the bag with air and that air can't escape back out thanks to a one-way valve. Instead the air is expelled through the three pipes called drones. The piper controls the air escape through the drones by pushing his arm down onto the bag to forcibly expel the air.
The drones consists of two tenors and one bass.
The fourth pipe is the chanter, which has holes that allow the piper to play the tune.
Bagpipes are loud and as such are designed to played outside in the open air. Perhaps in the dim and distant past bagpipes were used like mobile phones, to send messages to another clan in the next glen.
The English of old hated the highlander with his bagpipes, so much so that they banned the Scots from playing them. Fear can do strange things.
In the wrong hands, bagpipes wail, but in the hands of an expert piper, the bagpipes would bring tears to a glass eye, the sound is so beautiful.

I do enjoy listening to the bagpipes.
Maybe you could do a part 2 hub or add the red hot chilli pipers, for a look at rock bagpipe style.
Several years ago, I researched and found out my family, the Cooks, are a Sept of Clan Stewart, meaning we descend through the females of the clan. I took my oldest son to Edinburgh for Spring Break six years ago. We, of course, toured the castle and stood just outside St. Margaret's Chapel on Easter Sunday. This hub and its music brings back a lot of good memories.
Great hub and thank you.
It is. It's the front gate of Edinburgh Castle. The statues on either side are Robert the Bruce and William Wallace (Brave Heart). Also, my favorite song is Amazing Grace on the bag pipes. Per my instructions, it'll be the only song played at my graveside service.
I really liked this hub.
I'll take a look now. Thanks.
