Kids Garden - Buy Gardening Tool Sets for Children Online
68It is never too early to get your child interested in gardening. One way to do this is to buy gardening tools for children online. With their new 'toys' they will soon be growing pretty flowers and tending their own patch of garden.
I myself first developed an interest in gardening and plant growing when a small child, and that interest has stayed with me through all my adult life.
If you have a garden, select a small part of it and donate it to your child. Tell him or her that this garden is theirs and theirs alone, to do with it as they so wish.
Children feel so proud of this little garden that they will be keen to learn to weed it and plant seeds, and the pride on their little faces when their plants come through is a joy to behold.
Of course it is always better if you can prepare the ground first, as a small child would not be physically capable of turning it over and preparing it for first sowings.
Encourage your child to assist, explaining all the time why the job is necessary and to let him/her see for themselves how much (or little) work it involves to get the soil prepared - weed-free, stone-free and with a fine surface tilth ready for seed sowing. While they are playing with their new gardening tools, children are learning.
To make your child feel like a 'real' gardener, there are loads of little tool/clothing kits you can buy for your child to let them feel like the real thing.
It is probably a good idea to buy clothing protectors anyway, as your child is quite likely to end up particularly dirty with their new-found hobby.
The Ladybug gardening set for girls and boys aged 4 or over is ideal. It comes with an apron/overall with deep pockets specially designed for carrying gardening tools, a trowel and a set of gardening gloves, in attractive colours and design with children in mind.
The Busy Bee Gardener's set contains a bright coloured apron as well as tools for little hands.
Also included here are various gardening glove sets, designed for children. It is always a good idea to get your children used to wearing gloves while gardening. They are less likely to injure themselves on thorns or barbs, as well as stay cleaner. They can also pick up insects without fear while wearing gloves. While most insects are harmless, children may not recognise those that sting or bite and pick them up anyway.
tool sets
Of course they are going to need more tools than just a trowel (although that is a very good starter) and adult tools will generally be too heavy for the little ones to use.
What better then that the little kits you can see opposite and below, all in the bright colours that children prefer, which of course make them easier to find at the end of a long day's play in the garden.
Gardening is fun. Children will love it. It sould be like play to them as that is how children learn, through play.
It is a good idea to supervise your children in the garden, and teach them the correct usage of the gardening tools you have bought for them.
long handled tools
This little set of long-handled tools is a must for children to help them tend their patch of garden. It not only helps them to dig and work over the soil, it teaches them the correct usage of these tools which they will no doubt use as adults.
wheelbarrows
Every little garden set in not complete without a wheelbarrow, so that the little one can move earth, weeds, plant pots, stones, plants around in safety.
Amazon have 4 such wheelbarrows especially designed with children in mind. Hours of fun can be had playing with their very own wheelbarrow.
They can even double up as a pram for dolls and action men, so that they can be shown the garden too.
seeds
The ground is prepared, and your child is ready to plant. I've chosen some seed here that is easy to grow and fascinating for children, as well as two 'gift sets' provided by Amazon.
The flower seeds below can all be scattered on the soil and raked in. They all have the good and quick germination rate which children need to keep their interest.
watering cans
All plants need watering, especially during the growng season and during droughts. These little watering cans shown here are designed especially for children so they are small and lightweight, just the right size for a budding gardener to carry.
The metal one shown here is much more expensive than the other ones; that is because is made of everlasting metal, whereas the plastic ones are likely to biodegrade if left out in the elements for too long.
cleaning the garden
What is better than teaching a child when he/she is very young the importance of cleaning away after gardening?
Buy a brush and shovel cleaning set for your child so that they can do it effectively (an adult set would be way too big for them to use).
If you don't have a garden, you can still encourage children to develop an interest in horticulture through the growing of houseplants, and they will still be able to make use of nearly everything outlined above.
garden safety
Nearly every gardener uses chemicals of some sort or another, whether it is through pesticides, herbicides or fertilisers. Please make sure you keep these products out of reach of your children, or make sure you supervise your child thoroughly each time they wish to make use of these substances. Depending on their age and maturity, you may want to take time to explain what these chemicals are and what damage they can do to human if ingested or inhaled. Children are naturally curious and will want to know all about them if they see you using them.

Hi, Izzym , another enjoyable hub. You are so right about getting children to be interested in gardening at a young age. This is far more healthy and rewarding than being stuck in front of electronic gadgets all day, as seems to be the fad these days.
well done ! thx for sharing !
